The Calvert County Health Department promotes and protects the health of all county residents by preventing illness and eliminating hazards to health. In addition to enforcing health laws, particularly in regards to environmental health and communicable diseases, the Health Department provides a number of health-related services that directly benefit individuals as well as the community at large, such as comprehensive behavioral health services, including mental health and substance use treatment; prevention and interventions for chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer; maternal and child health programs; vaccinations and family planning; communicable disease surveillance and response services; application support for Medical Assistance and the Children's Health Insurance Program; Medical Assistance transportation coordination; and crisis services through the Crisis Intervention Center.
