Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse

The Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) is a grassroots coalition of individuals and organizations dedicated to preventing alcohol and other drug abuse in Calvert County, Maryland. CAASA is a non-profit that raises funds to support this vital effort. It includes community members, schools, civic and service organizations, religious groups, businesses, public agencies and county government. 

GOALS:

  1. To encourage citizens to take an active role in preventing alcohol and other drug abuse. 
  2. To foster an attitude that alcohol and other drug abuse is unacceptable. 
  3. To help those with a substance use disorder and their families achieve a drug-free lifestyle by providing treatment funding when appropriate through the use of funds from the Bernard M. Johnson Charitable Trust. 
  4. To support the expansion of school-based substance abuse prevention activities
  5. To assist businesses in promoting an alcohol-free and drug-free workplace. 

CAASA participates in and sponsors numerous awareness events throughout the year.  They include:

  • Alcohol Awareness Month
  • Prescription Medication Disposal Program

  • Mini-Grant Program 
  • Community Health Fairs
  • School-based prevention activities
