Residential Crisis Program at Cornerstone Montgomery, Inc

In the Residential Crisis Program at Cornerstone Montgomery, Inc., we believe that people need to be met where they are at when they are in psychiatric crises. Being able to remain in the community while receiving increased support is essential for someone recovering from mental illness. It allows clients to continue to live their lives including going to work, meeting with their outpatient providers, attending day programs, and spending time with family and friends; all while receiving medication adjustments, counseling, and 24 hour support. Crisis staff and clients work with the prescribers to adjust medications in order to decrease symptoms and achieve psychiatric stabilization. Our houses are staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, with at least 2 staff members.

The program was the subject of a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) sponsored research study comparing the treatment and cost effectiveness of the program with that of a psychiatric ward of a local hospital. The study demonstrated that the Residential Crisis Services hospital alternative is equally effective treatment at less than one-third of the cost.
